Julie is moved by color. It causes her heart to beat and her thoughts to race. While considering form, color is always her launching pad. She is, by training, a textile designer. She came to beadwork by way of woven, knitted and embroidered fabrics. She is enchanted by beads of all kinds, but focuses primarily on small glass seed beads from the Czech Republic, Japan and China. The surfaces and finishes of the beads, along with the myriad range of colors inspire her. All of her work is done, bead by bead, with a needle and fine metal braided thread. Her embroideries allow her to work the beads into a stable surface, allowing the beauty of curved forms and embellishment.
