Wendy’s studio is in a log cabin in Barbour County, West Virginia. She works in rayon, silk, cotton and bamboo. Natural colored yards are used and dyed using fiber reactive dyes. Both vat and ikat style dyeing techniques are used to apply color to the yards. Each piece is woven “in the moment;” no tow pieces are alike. A clasped weft tapestry technique is used to achieve the color effects in the weaving. Each piece is unique and individual, woven intuitively. Long walks along rivers and gravel roads and the West Virginia Hills surrounding Wendy’s studio serve as a strong inspiration for the color choices.
