Sara’s love of jewelry started as a young girl. Her grandmother had a jewelry box filled with trinkets her grandfather brought back from Japan. Every now and then Sara would try on the jewels. Sara studies at MICA in Baltimore and specializes in mokume-gane. Mokume-gane is a Japanese technique fusing together several alternating layers of metals. By the forging and working of the metal billet, a fine wood grain pattern emerges. The Japanese translation is “eye of the wood grain metal”. Each billet has 17-21 layers of metal which in turn creates one of kind pieces of wearable art.
