Patty creates her pieces with porcelain clay and sterling silver. Each piece of porcelain is hand formed and painted with ceramic oxides. Some of the porcelain pieces are carved after painting to reveal a color underneath, or to provide a certain shape. These porcelain “stones” are then fired in a kiln to a temperature of 2400◦F, at which point the clay has matured and is extremely durable. Next, Patty creates a custom silver setting to fit each ceramic stone. She primarily uses sterling silver and a variety of techniques, including roller printing, hammering, drilling, sawing, and soldering.
